How Online Counselling Works

Starting counselling can feel daunting — especially if it's your first time, or if a previous experience wasn't quite right. Here's what to expect when you work with me.

1. Reach out

Send me a message, email, or book a free 15-minute intro call. No commitment, no pressure — just a chance to ask questions and see whether working together feels right.

If you feel ready, you can also book a session directly.

2. Your first session

Sessions take place via a secure video platform, from wherever you are in South Africa.

3. Begin the work

We start where you are. The first session is largely about understanding your situation and what you're hoping for. There is no fixed script.

4. Move at your pace

Some people work with me for a few months; others for longer. The pace and duration of our work together are always guided by your needs.

Payment:

Payment can be made via EFT or direct bank transfer.
*Please note that I am not contracted to medical aid schemes at this time.

How much is a session?

• Individual sessions: R550
• 15-minute Introductory call — free

To support new clients in beginning their counselling journey, I offer a reduced-rate introductory package of 25% off — 3 counselling sessions for R1200.

How long is each session?

All sessions are up to 60 minutes (1 hour) in length and are scheduled at an agreed-upon time.

What are your policies?

Payment: Payment is required in advance to confirm your appointment. Once payment has been received, your session booking will be secured.

Cancellation policy: If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. This allows me to offer the session time to someone else who may be waiting for support. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed sessions, may be charged in full.

Do I need to be in Cape Town to work with you?

No. I offer online counselling to individuals across South Africa. As long as you have a stable internet connection and a private space, location is not a barrier.

Research consistently shows that online counselling is as effective as in-person therapy for most concerns, including trauma, depression, anxiety, and grief. The most important factor is the quality of the therapeutic relationship, which translates well to an online format.

Yes. I am registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (ASCHP) as a Specialist. My registration number is 10719.

This varies significantly from person to person and depends on what you're working through. Some people find meaningful progress in a few sessions; others prefer ongoing support. We discuss this together as we go.

Yes, with a small number of legally required exceptions — specifically, where there is a serious risk to your safety or the safety of others. I explain confidentiality in full at the start of our work together.

Sessions take place via Google Meet, which is simple to use and requires no special software downloads.

If something is affecting your quality of life, your relationships, or your sense of self — and you haven't been able to shift it on your own — that's a reasonable signal. You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from counselling.
