Counselling Services & Areas of Support
People rarely arrive in counselling with one neatly defined problem. Addiction may be connected to trauma. A painful relationship can affect self-worth, anxiety and the ability to trust yourself. Emotional overwhelm may lead to avoidance, impulsive behaviour or coping strategies that provide short-term relief but create longer-term problems.

My work focuses particularly on helping adults understand what is happening beneath these patterns and develop healthier ways of responding.
Not sure which type of counselling support you need?
You don't need to know exactly what kind of counselling you need before reaching out. Many difficulties overlap, and what brings you to counselling may not fit neatly into one category.
Addiction & Recovery Counselling may be a useful place to start if substance use, relapse, cravings or maintaining recovery are your main concerns.
Trauma & Relationship Harm Counselling may be a better fit if you are dealing with trauma, emotional abuse, controlling or harmful relationships, betrayal, difficulties with boundaries, or struggling to trust yourself after what you have experienced.
Coping Patterns & Emotional Regulation Counselling may fit if you understand your patterns but struggle to change them — such as overthinking, avoidance, people-pleasing, shutting down or becoming emotionally overwhelmed.
You don't need to choose the 'right' category. We can start with what is affecting you most right now and work from there.
Addiction is rarely only about the substance or behaviour itself. Alcohol, drugs and compulsive behaviours — such as gambling, shopping, sex or pornography use — can become ways of coping with difficult emotions, stress, trauma or loneliness.

Counselling can help you understand what the behaviour is doing for you, recognise triggers and relapse patterns, manage cravings and develop healthier ways of coping. I support adults who are questioning their substance use or compulsive behaviours.

Trauma can affect far more than memories of what happened. It can influence how safe you feel, how you respond to conflict, the relationships you enter, the boundaries you set and how much you trust your own thoughts, feelings and decisions.

I support adults affected by traumatic or overwhelming experiences, emotional or psychological abuse, controlling or harmful relationships, betrayal and other experiences that have left them feeling confused, hypervigilant, disconnected or unsure of themselves. Counselling can provide space to understand what has happened, recognise patterns and trauma responses, rebuild self-trust and begin moving forward at a pace that feels manageable.

Sometimes you already know that a behaviour or reaction is not helping — but knowing that does not necessarily make it easy to change. You may find yourself people-pleasing, avoiding difficult situations, reacting impulsively, shutting down, overthinking, procrastinating, becoming overwhelmed or returning to coping strategies you had promised yourself you would stop.

Counselling can help you understand what is driving these patterns rather than simply judging the behaviour itself. Together, we can identify triggers, recognise what happens before and after a familiar reaction, develop healthier ways of managing difficult emotions and create more space to respond differently when old patterns show up.

While every person's experience is different, much of my work centres around addiction and recovery, trauma and relationship harm, and understanding patterns that have become difficult to change.
The work I do most often
Areas of online counselling support
Support with persistent worry, overwhelm, overthinking, stress and feeling constantly on edge, especially when it becomes difficult to switch off, relax or feel present.
Support with bereavement and other forms of loss, including relationship breakdown, estrangement, life transitions and grieving what was, what changed or what never came to be.
Support when you feel depleted, disconnected, unmotivated or emotionally exhausted, and everyday responsibilities begin to feel heavier or harder to manage.
Support when change leaves you feeling uncertain, overwhelmed or unsure of what comes next, whether the transition was expected, chosen or completely outside your control.
Understanding the beliefs and patterns that make it difficult to advocate for yourself, trust your needs, say no or feel comfortable taking up space in your relationships.
Support with boundaries, conflict, communication, separation, trust and recurring relationship patterns that may be affecting your wellbeing, sense of self or ability to feel secure and connected in relationships.
Other areas of support
The aim is not to turn you into someone else. It is to help you understand yourself more clearly and make choices with greater awareness, confidence and freedom.
Person-centred counselling
Your experiences, needs and goals remain at the centre of the counselling process. Sessions are shaped around what matters most to you. I will support your process through careful questions, reflection and feedback. We move at a manageable pace and adjust the focus as your needs change.
Counselling approach
Trauma-informed counselling
I recognise how painful or overwhelming experiences can affect your emotions, relationships, beliefs and ways of coping. Sessions are approached with care, choice and respect. We may first focus on understanding your responses, managing distress and building emotional safety.
Evidence-informed counselling
I draw on established psychological research, recognised therapeutic principles and approaches shown to support emotional well-being and meaningful change. Rather than applying techniques mechanically, we consider what is most appropriate for your needs, experiences and goals.
